Dear TIAFT members,
Dear visitors to the website,

In the final days of 2012, let us reflect on the year that is ending, where we had many highlights: the regional meeting in Moscow, attended by many scientists from Russia, the beautifully organised annual meeting in Japan and the 8 th Latin American regional meeting in Santiago de Chile. Three Bulletins, packed with very useful information were sent to the membership.

In about six months, TIAFT will celebrate its 50th anniversary in London. We will have a meeting on April 26 and 27th 2013 at the Guildhall in London. Together with the LTG board, we have been working on the program that is now being finalised and that you can find on the website. Many eminent toxicologists will present state-of-the-art lectures and compare different aspects of our work with how it was 50 years ago. Registration is now open. The TIAFT board will have a meeting in London after the anniversary meeting.

In the coming months I will start posting pictures, movies and documents about the history of TIAFT in the members’ area of the website. They will also be displayed electronically during the meeting in London. If you have interesting documents, pictures and movies, please contact Dr. Stephen Morley (Stephen.Morley@sth.nhs.uk) or me so they can be shared with other TIAFT members.

Our next annual meeting will take place in Madeira in early September 2013. Please visit the website (www.tiaft2013.mj.pt) for updated information. The deadline for abstracts submission is April 1, 2013, with acceptance notification by April 30, 2013 and the early bird registration deadline is May 31, 2013. There are reduced registration fees for students and members from developing countries.

At this time, the board has not yet received any applications for assistance in developing methods in laboratories in developing countries. This program gives a laboratory in a developing country the possibility to obtain assistance in developing a method. TIAFT will send a young scientist for a short stay, and pay the costs for flight and stay. I encourage colleagues in developing countries to submit applications, so we can get this project going.

I also want to draw your attention to the webpage on International Exchange programs. I have posted a few links to institutions that can fund exchange programs and if you know of other sources, please post the information there. Some colleagues who would like to visit other labs have posted their information.

I wish all TIAFT members a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Alain Verstraete,
TIAFT President
