THE SOLID PHASE MICRO-EXTRACTION (SPME) OF AMPHETAMINE AND ITS DERIVATIVES FROM URINE AS A CHOICE OF EXTRACTION TODAY

A small number of scientific papers have been published recently on the solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) technique. This new extraction technique has been found to be considerably applicable for the analysis of all volatile substances. It was the purpose of this work to evaluate the use of this technique in the routine analysis of amphetamine derivatives.

Thirteen (13) of such derivatives have here within been investigated with spiked urine samples and the samples from actual forensic cases. The results obtained with the use of the SPME technique correlated highly (r=0.9913) to the results using traditional methodology (liquid-liquid or solid-phase extraction). The extracted samples were further analyzed using HP 5890II, GC/NPD and Shimadzu QP 5000 GC/MS. Every forensic toxicological case was previously screened by immunoassay (EMIT and FPIA). The SPME method used showed to be specific, rapid, precise and sensitive for routine determinations and therefore fulfilled all the requirements for clinical and medicolegal applications of toxicological laboratory.
