TIAFT Annual Meeting Attendance Grant Information 2008

  • PURPOSE
    To promote active attendance at TIAFT Annual Scientific and Professional Meeting by providing Financial Assistance to a DCF member.

  • WHAT
    Financial Assistance; Grant intended to offset the expenses of attending the meeting.

  • WHO
    DCF member or member from a developing country

  • ASSISTANCE BASED ON CRITERIA, INCLUDING
    Applicant is a DCF Member;
    Applicant is without sufficient resources to attend the TIAFT Meeting;
    Participation will have a positive effect on the applicant's future career in Forensic Toxicology;
    Preference will be given to an applicant who has an abstract that has been accepted for presentation at the upcoming annual meeting.

  • CRITERIA, INCLUDING
    - Applicant is a DCF Member;
    - Applicant is without sufficient resources to attend the TIAFT Meeting;
    - Participation will have a positive effect on the applicant's future career in Forensic Toxicology;
    - Preference will be given to an applicant who has an abstract that has been accepted for presentation at the upcoming annual meeting.

  • HOW MANY PERSON
    Five awards will be given in 2008

  • FROM WHERE (Designated Regions)
    1. South / Central America
    2. Africa
    3. Middle East
    4. Asia
    5. Eastern Europe

  • WHEN
    For the meeting in Martinique in June 2008.

  • FOR WHAT
    Assistance with Meeting Expense to attend the Annual Meeting; Financial assistance is not intended to cover all of the costs of meeting. Within three months after the meeting, the applicant will write a report on the meeting as he/she experienced it that will be published in TIAFT bulletin.

  • HOW MUCH
    Individual funding may vary - up to a maximum of two thousand ($2000) USD per person.

  • WHAT IS NOT COVERED
    Meals; Miscellaneous Personal Expenses.

  • RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
    • One person from each designated region, unless there are no candidates from some regions.
    • Air Travel is by Coach-travel only.
    • If awarded a Grant and are unable, for any reason, to attend said meeting, any monies received are to be returned to TIAFT within one month of the end of the Annual meeting.
    • Original receipts for covered items are to be received by the TIAFT Treasurer within one month of the end of the Annual Meeting.


  • HOW DO I APPLY
    Write a letter of application to the TIAFT President.
    The letter must include the following:
    • Length of time applicant has been a member of TIAFT;
    • Statement that applicant is not able to meet all the costs associated with attending the annual meeting of TIAFT, nor has financial support from the organization that employs the applicant; Inability to meet costs must be confirmed by Laboratory Director, or Chief Executive Officer.
    • Statement of why applicant wants to attend the TIAFT Annual Meeting and how attending the meeting will benefit the applicant in his/her career;
    • Statement as to whether the applicant has submitted an abstract for presentation at the upcoming meeting - applicant to submit copy of abstract with letter of application;
    • Information about whether applicant has presented at past TIAFT meetings;
    • Information about whether applicants attendance at a previous meeting was funded through TIAFT;
    • Information about if applicant requested to attend in previous year(s) and had been disapproved;
    • Detailed information about costs for Registration, Transportation and Lodging (estimate if necessary);
    • Information on the best way to contact the applicant, such as postal address, e-mail address, or fax number; and
    • Applicant's Resume.

  • DEADLINE OF APPLICATION
    Applications must be received by DECEMBER 20, 2007. Applications received after that date will not be processed.

  • GRANT NOTIFICATION
    TIAFT will ordinarily determine Grant recipients by JANUARY 7, 2008.

  • PAYMENT PROCEDURE
    Receipts have to be given to the Treasurer before payment is activated. Preferably before the meeting an indication of the actual airfare and accommodation costs from the hotel must be sent to the treasurer. The treasurer can then prepare a cheque before the meeting and give the cheque when the awardee gives the receipts at the meeting, or by mail. Reimbursements do not include taxes or insurance.
